The Holy Spirit a Gift?: “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give… the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” Luke 11:13. This verse is the closing of teaching us how to pray. When I translated this verse from Greek, not knowing which text it was, I was confused at the ending. “How much more will God give me the gifts I ask for,” is what I thought it was going to say. Wait, that’s not what it says. It says the Holy Spirit. Initial let down as I thought I already had that, why the Holy Spirit? Why not the desires of my heart? Is it the Holy Spirit that I really want from God? What about prosperity, guidance, comfort, hope, help with my brother’s and sister’s in and out of Christ? So how is the Holy Spirit the best gift for you and me? I found John 16:13-15 to answer my questions. This is the fits of the Holy Spirit: tells us what Jesus says today, teals us the future, convicts of sin, of what we can do right, provides accountability, brings glory to God by giving us what belonged to Jesus, expresses to Jesus our true heart cries, and is the deposit of heaven!! What better thing to ask for ourselves than the Holy Spirit?!
